🗺️ 14 Days of Magic: New Zealand from North to South


Day 1–2: Auckland & Waiheke Island – City Vibes and Island Time

 Arrive in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city. Spend your first afternoon exploring the vibrant waterfront, Sky Tower, or nearby Viaduct Harbour, enjoy a walking food tour or a visit to the Weta Workshop.

 Day 2: Escape to nearby Waiheke Island—just a 35-minute ferry ride away. Think rolling vineyards, boutique art galleries, and serene beaches. Experience a wine and food tour or for the more adventurous how about give ziplining a go.

 

Day 3: Waitomo Caves & Rotorua – Glowworms and Geothermal Wonders

Leave Auckland behind and drive south to Waitomo, home of the magical glowworm caves. Take a boat through an underground galaxy of twinkling blue lights. Visit the Hobbiton Movie Set, where you’ll stroll through the Shire and enjoy a drink at the Green Dragon Inn before arriving in Rotorua, a geothermal wonderland rich in Māori culture. Settle in and relax and spend some time soaking in one of the hot pools in the area.

 

Day 4: Rotorua – Māori Culture and Mud Pools

Start the day with bubbling geysers and steaming mud pools at Te Puia. Then, immerse yourself in Māori history and hospitality with a cultural performance and traditional hāngī feast in the evening.

Day 5: Lake Taupō

Continue to Lake Taupō, the largest lake in the Southern Hemisphere, take the Huka Jet boat to see the famous Huka Falls.  Visit the prawn farm where you can go prawn fishing or take a sunset cruise on Lake Taupo.

 

Day 6: Tongariro National Park – Volcanic Vistas

Head into Tongariro National Park, a dual World Heritage Site. Hike one of the short trails, or for the adventurous, tackle part of the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

 

Day 7: Wellington – Capital Culture

Drive to New Zealand’s capital city. Visit Te Papa Museum, enjoy artisan coffee, and wander the quirky Cuba Street.

Cap it off with a sunset ride on the Wellington Cable Car.

Day 8: Fly to Queenstown – The Adventure Begins

Fly to Queenstown, the adventure capital of the world. Check into a lakeview hotel and soak in the scenery—mountains reflected in deep-blue Lake Wakatipu.

Take the Earnslaw steamboat across the lake to Walter Peak farm for a farm demonstration and gourmet BBQ dinner.

 Day 9: Queenstown – Choose Your Own Adventure

This day is all about you. Skydiving, jet boating, bungy jumping, e-biking—or a relaxing wine tour through Gibbston Valley. Prefer something more scenic? Ride the gondola, or a hot air balloon, or book a photography tour with a local guide.

 Day 10: Milford Sound – Fjordland Majesty

Take a day trip (by coach, flight, or scenic drive) to Milford Sound. Cruise beneath towering cliffs and thundering waterfalls and feel dwarfed by nature in its most dramatic form.

 

Day 11: Wanaka – Serenity with a Side of Adventure

Drive to Wanaka, Queenstown’s peaceful counterpart. Stop at Arrowtown for lunch and a stroll through this charming gold rush town. In Wanaka, visit Wanaka Tree, take a Wild Hills Safari tour through a High-Country farm – with views that are breathtaking or visit a local lavender farm or boutique gin distillery.

 

Day 12: Mount Cook National Park – Alpine Splendour

Head into the heart of the Southern Alps—Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. Hike the Hooker Valley Track with its swing bridges and glacier views. Watch the sunset turn the mountains pink.  Take a Heli hike onto the Tasman Glacier or a scenic helicopter flight with a glacier landing.

Day 13: Lake Tekapo – Stargazing and Southern Beauty

Drive to Lake Tekapo, known for its turquoise waters and stargazing sanctuary. Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd, walk the lakeshore, and soak in the Tekapo Hot Springs.

In the evening, experience a guided stargazing tour at the Mount John Observatory.

 

Day 14: Christchurch – Garden City Farewell

Your final day leads you to Christchurch, the South Island’s cultural gateway. Explore the Botanic Gardens, ride the vintage tram, or enjoy a last-minute shopping spree.

Fly out in the evening or extend your stay for one last adventure.
